Up until 4:00? Feeling like you can’t ever catch-up? Grumpy and wanting to just get away from it? If you’re feeling that way – you’re not alone. Between homework, classes, friend and roommate drama, and other commitments that you just don’t want to back down from, school can seem overbearing and beyond stressful. I’m feeling this way this year more than I have ever before so let’s sit back and think this through – where are your priorities?

If God isn’t first then there is a problem. Honestly guys, God is the only way to feel relaxed in a time when things seem to be falling apart. Only the Lord can give you the strength to climb out of your bed at 7:00 so that you can get the last bit of homework done before class, to help you stay focused when it seems impossible, and God alone will give you the strength to deal with whatever else has been thrown your way. There’s just one little catch… You have to allow Him to. This is so hard to do, but it is seriously the only way to get back on track. Last year was a rough year for me emotionally and my mom sent me different colored notecards each week with a Bible verse that talked about God’s strength. There are so many verses and if you think about the amazing things that are said in those verses – you can start to feel a little peace just wash right over you. God is in control already so why try to fight Him for it? Trust me, it isn’t worth it.

Secondly, you need to decide if sleeping, your health, your homework and classes, or friends is next on your list. These need to be thought about carefully because if you don’t get enough sleep and you’re not as healthy as you should be, you won’t be able to be there for your friends or even be pleasant to be with and you definitely won’t be able to do your schoolwork to the best of your abilities. However, if you only worry about sleep and your health, your schoolwork could suffer greatly. Balancing things out is hard, but it’s essential in trying to come out on top of it all.

If you struggle with staying on task, I would suggest having a friend who can hold you accountable/yell at you when you’re not doing what you should be. This helps ensure that you’ll get done with what needs to get done. And above all trust that God will help you because He loves you so very much.

So, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and get done what needs to get done – just don’t forget to take care of you too!
