Psalm 131

Do you know the gaze caught in learning,

the cast of eye that comes between longing and knowing,

the steady look, not bleary with demand,

not straining from a busied body,

but the unblinking seeing of a student

who wants so much the vantage a good question will offer

that she slows her pulse to the merest thrumming and waits?

Then, Lord, you know me now.
